... Warlords ...

Here are the lyics to the song “Warlords”. Watch out for the sword … it’s really sharp.

Warlords

it’s all we know
to resist to replace to reload
scary
invulnerable
from a distance we watch it unfold
on and off we go

it’s all on automatic
it wouldn’t take us very long to mend this
don’t be so coy about it
you’d rather sacrifice the young than risk your image

the safety is off

*

how strong you need to be
how much you need to lead
this time we’re all in gear
to watch this catastrophe
no hand will hold or feel
this peace that couldn’t be
this time the weapons real
restart the history

the afterglow of the radioactive exposed
scary
containment holds, as the world outside it corrodes
on and off we go

villains so diplomatic
convince the meek that they’ll be young forever
enlist the disenchanted
their greatest strength is in their own dysfunction

the safety if off

*

how strong you need to be
how much you need to lead
this time we’re all in gear
to watch this catastrophe
no hand will hold or feel
this peace that couldn’t be
this time the weapons real
restart the history
can you hear the march call
pouring out of the factories
reclaim your own song
rewrite the symphony
overnight the truth falls
into a memory
what can you really do
that part’s a mystery

*To be determined …

… Kaboom! (lyrics) …

... Kaboom! ...

I’ve been working to finish the vocals for this song for about a week now. It is one of the more catchy songs on “Bits” … it actually has versus and a chorus. The chorus has grown into a five part harmony that I spent several hours trying to get tracked.

I’m close …

As I work on each song, they take turns being my favorite. It is a strange thing to release the lyrics before anyone has even heard the songs yet …

Hmm… makes me wonder what the video will be like for this one?

Kaboom!

There’s a troubling thought that’s stuttering
It sound so terrible the world could end
When suddenly the leaves change color
And I rediscover every word you said
You’re listening
I’m listening
We could tear it up with one misstep

If you want to get away, you’re going to have to lead me out
One thing left to be arranged when settling to save yourself

Let’s go Kaboom!

Why would you want to be the same
Look out your window
Your memory is such a tricky place
It’s a place we can’t go
One word would set a better pace
the rate that our hearts know
I have a plan to get away
It’s a way we both know

Living in a simulation
It will reduce you
As the world expands
There’s a little hesitation
Will it breakaway and let the memories stand
You’re listening now
I’m listening now
We could tear it up with one misstep

If I want to get away, I’m never going to leave you out
One less thing to be arranged when settling to save myself
Let’s go Kaboom!

We’ve got to get away from all this
We’re leaving the remains behind us
Leave them out there

Why would you want to be the same, look out your window
Your memory is such a tricky place, a place we can’t go
One word can set a better pace, the rate that our hearts know
I have a plan to get away
It’s a way we both know

... Brain Games ...

The song “Brain Games” stems from the graphically challenged and cryptically expressive game of the same name. It is similar to the children’s game “Memory” in that you have to match images. The Atari intermittently blasts strange noises at you to try and “scramble your brain”.

It works.

Studying Physics for the last three years led me ponder the nature of the scientific method on many occasions. It is has been the primary method of digesting, collecting and classifying human knowledge for hundreds of years. It works well for many things … and yet there are entire fields of experience completely beyond its scope.

It is one of the last songs to come together for my up coming album “Bits”. I am happy with the way it turned out.

You can listen to a rough mix of the intro to the song here.

Brain Games

We’re testing a way
->We’re testing the same way
We’ll give it a name
->We’ll give it the same name
Just seconds away
->Just seconds the same way
Our method explains
->Our method estranges

It’s time to diagnose
The hypothetical
To organize the world
To strike at the unknown
The function and the mode
Are formally opposed
Let’s isolate the truth
As far it will go

We’ll know
Once this theory is in place

We’ll know
Once this theory is in place

*
If your understanding’s so unclear
Test it out
And forget the mysteries that brought you here
If you knew would you really want to take this apart?
One … two … give it a start

Define
Gathering
Design
Estimating
Analyze
Measuring
Classify
Test it and

Once this theory is in place
We’ll know the difference
Once this theory is in place
No more resistance

Count all the little ones
The way of reduction
We need to settle this
The problem with the evidence
*

* repeat this portion of the experiment

… No Escape! (lyrics) …

... shot from the No Escape! music video ...

“No Escape!” is a song off of my first solo record called “Bits”. It draws conceptual inspiration from a strange and challenging Atari 2600 game released by Imagic in the early 1980s.

The song is also the subject of my second video from the record. It is an animated movie in set in the world of classic video games … an 8 bit romance in less than 3 minutes. It will contain elements of action and suspense with gripping, high tension computer generated imagery unlike the world has seen since 1987 (see picture above).

Oh yeah … the lyrics are as follows:

No Escape!

It’s something strange we’re traveling in
This world so dislocated
Trapped in our cages shutting us in
It appears there’s no escaping

If so we’ll do it alone

Let’s run, let’s break, let’s struggle to win
Against the long shot complications
The social reflex tying us in
It was never in the calculation
Way back when the world went crazy
You lived with your dreams and held them in
And now when there’s no escape from this
Just take my hand listen

If so we’ll do it alone
If that’s the way in

I have looked it over this time
There’s no surprise
This lock’s untried

We’re settling into silence again
As the words can’t catch the meaning
This quiet holds an unknown strength for me
It’s tying up once divided
It’s getting hard to discover what’s needed
If look in the middle find it

If so we’ll do it alone
If that’s the way in

I have looked it over this time
There’s no surprise
This lock’s untried

... working with Brain Games ...

I had a better day today. I wrote some more lyrics for the song “Brain Games” and even recorded the intro vocals. They sound good enough to me so I’ll keep them for the record.
I scrapped together a little mixy-mix for the ol’ blog so here you go:

Brain Games Intro (WITH completely dry vocals1!!1!)
Scientific Method + Baroque Basso Continuo = 2008 - 1650

Here are the lyrics for the intro.

Brain Games (intro)

We’re testing a way
We’re testing the same way
We’ll give it a name
We’ll give it the same name
Just seconds away
Just seconds the same way
Our method explains
Our method estranges

In other news, I blew the dust off of the “Combat” video and started hacking away at the footage again. Gotta keep that one alive.

Did I ever tell you about the time I made these zombie puppets with my friends and planned this epic zombie video?

Hmmmmmm……

... coming soon ... ???

... Combat ...

Here are the lyrics to the song “Combat” from my forthcoming record “Bits”.

It is the first song on the record and arguably the most accessible. It is also the subject of the first video for the record. The video should be out by the end of the summer (2008).

Combat

last night I got word to turn the radio up and give my position
you hide and I’ll make sure that the only ones left are the mathematicians

communication ready to fall
this coded message with nothing to solve
deconstructing every weakness; tearing it out
they’ll build their shelters we’ll make the bombs
all together now

inside hides the controller
outmoded beliefs are getting older
that’s nice when everyone is aiming right at you
this whole disease … it isn’t over at all
we can make it if we run for cover
that’s hard to see if you never change your point of view

communication ready to fall
this coded message with nothing to solve
deconstructing every weakness tearing it out
you build your shelters they’ll make the bombs
all together now

stand by, hold your line, if it deteriorates you stick with the mission
next time we’ll switch sides and that’s the only defense against repetition

you pull the trigger, I’ll make the call
erase the map and relabel it all
when every person every nation is standing apart
they’ll build your shelters they’ll make the bombs
all together now

this battle with you has really broken my heart
a surrender refused
it never gets there
this battle with you has really opened my heart
my message confused
another thing to repair

… Breakaway … (lyrics)

... Breakaway ...

I got things rolling today by recording some acoustic guitar and vocals for the song “Breakaway”.

It’s kind of funny to be singing a song and creating it as you record. I’ve always written music in this way in form or another (four track demos and such). I like making decisions as I record, instead of planning everything out to meticulously before hand. It leaves me open to different possibilities.

This song is inspired by the Uncertainty Principle, duality and transcending impossible barriers.

Breakaway

Like a wave
Like a wave
Travels through the emptiness
Like a wave
In this way we all give up our places
Here
Breakdown
Breakout

Half awake
Half awake
Like the way we lived before
Half awake

In this way we all mean something
Hiding away
Don’t ever let them change you
Breakdown
Breakout
Breakthrough

Breakaway
Breakaway
Like a particle of light
Like a wave
In this way we all mean something
Hiding away
Don’t ever let them change you
Breakdown
Breakout
Breakthrough

Everybody wants to get this new world over with
Everyone except for you
Just pick it up and use what you started with
What are you afraid to do?
We’ll throw a party for the cruel and the ignorant
Everyone’s invited to
And when we’re ready for a total disarmament
What will there be left of you?
