… Outlaw (lyrics) …

“Outlaw” (also released as “Gunslinger”) was one of the first songs I wrote during the initial writing phase of “Bits”. I loved the game on the Atari 2600. It is probably one of the best two player versus games ever made. No joke.

Here are the lyrics to the song. It is one of the more straight ahead songs on the record and kicks off with a nice AM radio harmony.

Outlaw

there’s a reason they will track you down
this idea that we all know how
to lead ourselves when they are not around
dust and difference never settle out

scattered across the earth
no end and no reserve
listen and observe
the sound of complaining

this place can’t turn it around
displace it; turn it around
a method to erase this; turn it around
if everyone exchanges we’ll turn it around

so intent on dueling
step ten paces
look and see
it’s getting harder
to be an outlaw

every corner called from to announce
the most misleading offering allowed
cashing in rewards for those in doubt
didn’t we feel it; didn’t we all look down

scattered across the earth
no end and no reserve
listen and observe
the sound complaining

this place can’t turn it around
displace it; turn it around
a method to erase this; turn it around
if everyone exchanges we’ll turn it around
so intent on dueling
step ten paces
look and see

it’s getting harder
to be an outlaw
