… Breakaway … (lyrics)

... Breakaway ...

I got things rolling today by recording some acoustic guitar and vocals for the song “Breakaway”.

It’s kind of funny to be singing a song and creating it as you record. I’ve always written music in this way in form or another (four track demos and such). I like making decisions as I record, instead of planning everything out to meticulously before hand. It leaves me open to different possibilities.

This song is inspired by the Uncertainty Principle, duality and transcending impossible barriers.

Breakaway

Like a wave
Like a wave
Travels through the emptiness
Like a wave
In this way we all give up our places
Here
Breakdown
Breakout

Half awake
Half awake
Like the way we lived before
Half awake

In this way we all mean something
Hiding away
Don’t ever let them change you
Breakdown
Breakout
Breakthrough

Breakaway
Breakaway
Like a particle of light
Like a wave
In this way we all mean something
Hiding away
Don’t ever let them change you
Breakdown
Breakout
Breakthrough

Everybody wants to get this new world over with
Everyone except for you
Just pick it up and use what you started with
What are you afraid to do?
We’ll throw a party for the cruel and the ignorant
Everyone’s invited to
And when we’re ready for a total disarmament
What will there be left of you?

… the plan …

I don’t have much of a plan. I am going to record and enjoy myself. I have thirteen songs sketched out for “Bits”. Some more detailed than others.

... recording setup ...

I spent the better part of the day plugging everything in and setting it up. The overly compulsive part of myself hates working in the middle of a mess of cord spaghetti, but I’ll have to learn to deal with the rat’s nest of cables under my desk.

I’m not sure what I’m going to work on tomorrow. I have some songs that just need to be tracked. Some songs need to have some lyrics written and others need some melody and lyric work.

… made it home …

Drove through the Columbia Gorge today and made it home to record. Everything just barely fit into the car. I only brought two of my three guitar amps - but I’m sure I’ll survive.

Time to get to work!

So I spent my first day as a college grabjamate working on lyrics for my record “Bits”. I’ll be recording soon and I need to get some words squared away.

So I penned some verses for “Kaboom!”, “Breakaway”, and “Demon Attack”. I plan on spending most of my day tomorrow working on more lyrics.

Here are some fellow June 13th b-dayers.

… Hydrogen VST prototype …

I finished the prototype of the Hydrogen spectra VST.

... preliminary interface ...

It is not ready for a public Beta test yet. I think my calculations for the frequencies are a bit “bunched” together. I am going to spend some time working on the interpretation of the spacing of the intervals.

... synthedit guts ...

I ended up using the linear pitch space equation and modifying it to fit the range of the frequencies of light emitted from the Hydrogen atom. I changed the base frequency from 440 Hz to 300000000000000 Hz in an effort to transpose the frequencies into the range of a piano keyboard.

… Hydrogen VST progress …

I’ve been working on my VST (virtual instument) that translates the spectral lines of Hydrogen into the audio spectrum.

... our sun back in 1958 ...

It will turn the intervals between the lines into musical notes. It will probably sound very, very bad and unmusical … unearthly.

I have the wavelengths converted into frequencies. Now I need to decide how to crunch them into the audio spectrum. Aliasing? Re-scaling????

... interstellar Hydrogen ...

I’ve modified the equation for linear pitch space to try and fit the data from the spectral line series…

We’ll see what happens.
