… Yamahopper (continued) …
Today I worked on my new moped for a bit.
I …
Replaced the front turn signals (thanks for the help Liz) with some used ones I scored on ebay
Removed and cleaned the carb
Removed the head and checked out the head gasket
Removed the exhaust and checked for buildup and clogging
The turn signals actually worked out ok. I have both front ones working now … but not blinking. I need new bulbs for the rear ones. In fact, I pretty much need new rear turn signals. Either the blinker unit is out, or the electrical system doesn’t have enough juice to make the lights blink.
The carb cleaned up nicely, and the motor sounds better than before, but it still lacks power. I can get the bike up above 25 … but I have to walk start it.
The head gasket seems to be where the power problem is. These old mopeds run an aluminum head gasket and mine looks to be about paper thin and worn through. I’ll probably replace that thing and see how it works out.
The exhaust system didn’t seem to be clogged. I took the muffler off and tried running the bike without it to see if it would have some more power … nope.
Maybe a new plug too?
