Take one second and look under your computer. Most likely, there is a bunch of dust and gross stuff under there. Dust is mostly human skin.
Not cool.
I spent today crawling around under a bunch of computers and doing some hardware upgrades. I had a Howard Hughes moment as I was wriggling around in the dusty environs of the modern computer. Not good.
I also went to the opening of the Time Based Arts Festival here in Portland and saw Chris Larson’s band Deelay Ceelay. It was fun. I forgot to put batteries in my digital camera.
I ran into Jeremy Bird and got to catch up with him. He is a fine film maker that I admire. That was good … because I was having a particularly low day as far as my record “Bits” is concerned … but I’m over it now.
So I’ve been tracking vocals for the song “Kaboom!” the last few day. I was getting close to being done today … when something didn’t quite sit right in the mix.
The chorus of the song just seemed to be to be slightly dissonant. It is a melody that is reinforced by a three/four part harmony … doubled. There are eight vocals tracks all together and it can be very tough to harmonize with yourself (twice) and keep everything in tune.
I thought I had it … I really did.
It turns out, all eight tracks were equally flat by a microtonal amount … enough to disturb me and probably shut me out of my bid for the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame.
Oh well, that’s what the DELETE key is for. I’ll hit it over again tomorrow.
On another note (hahahahaahahahahahahhaha) … I GOT MY JOB TODAY!
AWESOME!
I am now a weekend warrior. Well … I guess I should really say “Let the countdown to weekend warriorhood begin!”
Tonight, Liz and I rode our old bikes down to see an art opening of a good friend - Avalon Kalin.
He is the son of my mother’s best friend from high-school and we have known each other for pretty much our entire lives. He is film maker, musician, artist and alchemist of grandiose ideas.
His video piece involved finding people on the street and having them read some poetry by Hafez. That crazy kook…
I snapped a couple clips while I was down at the opening of some party animals.

I did manage to finish the lyrics and record some scratch vocals for the song “Warlords” today. Then I was overcome with a little bit of hopelessness about finishing this darn thing. Someimes it can be really fun and rewarding. Other times it can be hard to keep going.
On to “Brain Games” tomorrow. Then I’ll finish off some sectional lyric work in a bunch of different songs and then start tracking the final vocals.
