… double trouble / double peppy …

I’ve started up two new songs this week in an effort to wrap up the writing phase with a “peppy” song. One is inspired by the bleep-o-tronic soundtrack to the 1982 video game “Tron Solar Sailor” and the other one is just inspired by general “peppiness”.

Something happened along the way and the “peppy” song has taken on a slightly melancholy feel. The tempo is still riding pretty high, but I think I’m going to have to swing the feel of this song back from :| to :}.

Here is a little snippet of how it is coming along … just kind of a doodle really:

(you may need headphones to hear the bass on this one if you are using crappy laptop speakers)

Maybe this will be that linear song I’ve been searching for. You know … the one that doesn’t repeat and just keeps developing. I will say that pattern based song creation makes linear composition more challenging. Once you come up with a cool sounding part, it is easy to just drop it back into you composition as opposed to just creating another complimentary part. I’ll see if I can resist the urge or at least hold it at bay. I also wanted to throw in some samba-ish base/drum stuff next … time to dig out the old LPs.

… and good lord I will not be naming this song “peppy”
