… not looking so good …

While working on a number of scenes from the “No Escape!” video today, my LCD monitor gave up the ghost. There are green, red and black lines crawling through the image.

Not cool.

I’ve had to rewire the VGA cable on this baby a few times. The VGA cable is built into the monitor itself, so if it goes bad I guess you are just suppose to toss the monitor.

I didn’t want to trash mine.

I picked up a replacement D-sub 15-pin connector after the built in cable first started going bad and figured out which wires connected to which pin.

This wasn’t easy. There were more than ten different tiny wires and my soldering iron is as dull as a baseball bat. After hitting a few foul balls, I finally got it working again and it has held up fine for about a year.

It started freaking out again today and I realized that the cable wasn’t the problem anymore … the problem was inside the LCD itself.

Bad cable + Bad montitor = More consumerism

It looks like I will be picking up a new LCD sometime soon so I don’t have to work on my music and films on a 12″ or 10.2″ laptop screen.
