Years ago, when Liz and I lived in Lisbon, Portugal, I had a really terrible digital camera. It was less than a megapixel and had no LCD to view (or compose) your pictures. I took hundreds and hundreds of shots with that thing. Any time I wanted to get a picture of something, I had to take at least four pictures just so I could be sure that one would turn out.
Many years later, I was trying to figure out a way to put all my pictures together from that time. I started toying around with After Effects advanced frame blending ability. I was able to create some disturbing and compelling short movies by exaggerating the time between the frames and blending each image into the next.
When Liz and I went to John Day Park in Eastern Oregon a few years ago, I took a few shots with this method in mind. The above film is composed of two separate frames … stretched into into 144 frames.
I need to do some more experiments with this … I may end up shooting another video for “Bits” this way.
I also need to finish my film from Portugal …
