… oh S10, how I love thee …
I have a little bitty computer. A Lenovo S10.
So far I have put 2 GB of RAM and a 320 GB 7200 RPM SATA drive into it. Crazy.
I also loaded the Adobe CS3 Porduction Premium suite onto it. It wouldn’t take some of the programs because the display only supports 1024 x 600. You can run a virtual display at higher resolutions which may help trick the Adobe installer into letting you put Illustrator and the like on board. I’m happy enough with Photoshop, After Effects, and Premiere Pro. I’ll be damned if I have to do any real rendering on this thing though.
I also upgraded to Sonar 8PE and have been using the S10 as a test machine to see how it works. All of my sessions for “Bits” seem to open up just fine. I’m using ASIO emulation to get the onboard sound to cooperate with Sonar. I had a few BSOD errors when the Sonar wave profiler hit the native driver for the internal sound card. It seems to work well with now.
One cool thing about this little netbook is that it has an expresscard slot. I could slap a firewire card in there and use the 2.5 pound laptop as a production monitor with my HDV cam. I need to test this out.
Wait … I’m running the most modern version of some butt kickin’ audio software on a toy laptop. I would hate to think what I could have done with something like this when I first started four tracking when I was a kid.
Anyway … this thing is fun. I hope to do some scriptwriting on it’s tiny keyboard. We’ll see how that goes.
